We are currently working on a pro bono assignment which involves a significant fundraising campaign for an amazing and important project being undertaken by a young Kiwi.(Yeah, we know the pic isn't a Kiwi but the Kiwi in this item is a bloke. Not a bird. So that makes the pic OK. Doesn't it?)
The project (or at least our part of it) is in its embryonic stages and we are very lucky to have been able to put together an impressive, talented, high profile team of contributors of skills, resources and expertise.
One small but important part of this involves the establishment of a Charitable Trust which will meet monthly to develop and guide the whole thing.
A few weeks ago we wrote to the top six hotels in Auckland asking if they could support this cause by donating a meeting room for 2 hours each month for the holding of Trust Board meetings. In return they would, of course, receive appropriate acknowledgement and credits (not to mention our goodwill!)
At the time of writing, five have not replied at all and one has replied offering a discounted rate.
The Point : Five top Auckland hotels have alienated eight key players in the New Zealand business world. We would have quite understood any decision not to support this cause but to not bother to even reply is bad marketing. It will have consequences. Remember, in a country as small as ours, you never know who you are really talking to.
The rule is simple and was taught to us by our mothers – simply treat everyone in life as you would wish to be treated yourself. That’s good marketing.
