Packed House for SME Marketing Seminar

There is only one place money comes from – customers. So, everything your business is, says and does must be geared towards that source.

That was the message delivered in entertaining fashion by The Marketing Bureau CEO, Brian H Meredith, to a full house of more than 130 people at a free marketing seminar in Silverdale’s Rotary House last week.

“A business is a marketing organism”, Brian told the Seminar, organised by the Rodney Economic Development Trust and The Rodney Times.

“It is engaged in marketing from the moment it open its doors on day one and continues for as long as it continues to exist” he said.

“You can leave that marketing behaviour to chance or you can manage, nourish and nurture it to achieve the outcomes you want or need”

Brian explained to the audience of SME owners and operators that, to do that, a business must have a marketing “state of mind” and must work hard at knowing the answers to four key marketing questions:

•   What business am I in? (Holes or drills?)
•   What am I selling? (Better holes? Faster Holes? More Accurate Holes? Cheaper Holes?)
•   Who am I selling it to? (Understanding of customers needs, wants and behaviours)
•   Why should they want to buy it at all, let alone from me?

The Brand Concept, Customer Experience Management and the concept of every member of staff being a Mini Marketing Director were other areas addressed during what many attendees described as being “an entertaining, thought provoking and incredibly useful” Seminar.
