Things To Ponder

The following content has only the loosest connection to matters “marketing” but we thought it would amuse you as you juggle your days, hours and minutes in the lead up to Christmas. Enjoy!

Life’s Big Questions

Why is lemon juice made with artificial flavouring but dishwashing liquid is “made with real lemon juice”?

Why is it that you have to click “start” in order to “stop” Microsoft Windows?

When did you last see the headline “Psycho wins lotto?”

If all is not lost, where is it?

A closed mouth gather no food

Never knock on death’s door – ring the bell and run like hell

The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue

Warren Buffet

Finally the “e” bubble has burst and reality has imposed itself. Amidst the debris some gems remain. Greed on Wall Street (and every other street) has created an uncontrollable market. Billionaire Warren Buffet of the investment old school said in condemning Wall Street “whizzes” – “By shamelessly merchandising birdless bushes, promoters have in recent years moved billions of dollars from the pockets of the public to their own purses and to those of their friends and associates.” Strong words in keeping with Buffet’s equally strong convictions

Global Village

If the world’s population were shrunk to a village of 100 people, with all existing ratios remaining the same, that village would comprise:

57 Asians

21 Europeans

14 people from the western hemisphere (both north & south)

8 Africans

52 would be female

48 would be male

70 would be non white

30 would be white

70 would be non Christian

30 would be Christian

89 would be heterosexual

11 would be homosexual

6 people would possess 59% of the entire world’s wealth and all 6 would be from the USA

80 would live in sub-standard housing

70 would be unable to read

50 would suffer from malnutrition

1 would be near death

1 would be near birth

1 would have a college education

1 would own a computer

How Cool Is This!

A man who was almost blind spent 18 months looking for a job. It was a frustrating time. Eventually a major kiwi corporate agreed to let him join the intensive 4 hour test Sessions for hopeful recruits. The man’s wife phoned the company’s recruitment personnel and asked them if they honestly felt that he had a chance of passing the test. If not, she wanted them to tell him immediately and save him anymore heartbreak. The corporate’s HR people said they thought he had a very real chance.

On the Friday following the test the corporate phoned. The man had a job starting Monday. When our sight impaired man turned up for work on the Monday he found that new specialist software had been installed (at no small expense) on “his” machine to help him work with his disability.

True story.
